Elastomeric Waterproof Membrane

Flexoroof is a single component tar extended Polyurethane, specifically designed as a high performance waterproof membrane for use in roofing and as a protective membrane.

Areas of Use

Inverted and exposed roofs, terraces, fountains, planters, water retaining structures (non potable).

Advantages

  • Single component.
  • Easily applied direct from drum.
  • High flexibility.
  • Temperature and U.V. stable.
  • Excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates.

Application

Preparation

All surfaces to be coated should be clean, dry and free from contamination. Newly placed concrete should be prepared to ensure any surface laitence is removed and a minimum of 28 days should elapse before Flexoroof is applied to newly cast concrete in roofing construction.

Any moss or lichen should be removed previously and treated with BCR Eradarot to kill spores and inhibit future growth.

Metal surfaces should be free from paint or other contaminants. Light abrasion followed by a wipe of solvent will assist adhesion.

A careful examination of all substrates must be undertaken with special attention paid to areas such as cracks, flashings, transitions from horizontal to vertical plate, also special attention should be paid to any expansion joints in the substrate.

1) Cracks static cracks may be treated in a number of ways. Dependent upon the severity, fine cracking up to a maximum of 3 mm may be treated with a localised coating of Flexoroof applied at a thickness of 3mm along the line of the crack ensuring that the Flexoroof penetrates into the crack, the localised coating should extend 75mm either side of this crack and allowed to cure prior to the application of the full coating.

2. Dynamic cracks, expansion joints and static cracks exceeding 3mm:- All joints should be cleaned and cracks opened to provide a uniform dimension. The prepared cracks and joints should be filled using BCR Thioseal 4245 polysulphide sealant or BCR Low Modulus polyurethane sealants (N.B. The depth of sealant should not exceed the width of the crack or joint). Once the sealant has cured a de-bonded tape should be applied to the surface of the installed sealant and the joint overcoated with a localised coating of Flexoroof applied @ 1.3 mm thickness extending 150 mm each side of the crack/joint, with a 150mm wide polyester scrim embedded into the coat whilst it is wet.

3. Angle transitions it is necessary to form fillets at all angle transitions. Fillets may be formed using a variety of methods including use of sand cement incorporating BCR Compound SBR, after curing fillets should be pre-treated with a coating of Flexoroof reinforced with scrim and again extended 150 mm each side of the angle.

Placement:

Flexoroof should be applied at a wet film thickness of 1.3 mm (1.3 litres/M), in addition to preparatory coatings.

N.B. A maximum wet film thickness of 2 mm should not be exceeded. On vertical surfaces it may be necessary to achieve the correct film thickness by applying 2 coats with lighter loading to avoid slump especially when working at high ambient temperatures. Apply 2 coat systems at right angles to each other to ensure a more even film thickness.

If a water test or flood test is to be applied allow a minimum curing period of 10 days.

Curing and Protection

The Flexoroof PU membrane should be allowed to cure for up to 60 hours at 20°C before placing protection to avoid damage by traffic. The cured Flexoroof PU membrane can be dusted with dry cement to prevent adhesion to boards whilst working to lay screeds, fix tiles etc.

SPOT REPAIRS If during application or at any time the membrane is damaged by traffic, tools, etc. the damaged area can be easily repaired by spot application of Flexoroof with a paint brush etc.
