Surespeed

Pack Size

Quantity:

Surespeed

Frostproofer and Rapid Hardener

Liquid admixture which accelerates the setting of concrete and mortar.

Contains Chloride ions: not for use in re-inforced concrete.

Rate of use guide:

1.25 Ltr - 2.5 Ltr per 25 kg of cement.

Areas of Use

For use in the acceleration of screeds and paving where a reduction in set time is required; also suitable for use as an accelerator in non reinforced concrete, as a super rapid hardener for plugging of leaks in concrete. Surespeed can also be used as a frostproofing aid in cold weather working. See Watchpoints.

  • Multi-faceted product.
  • Minimises waiting times on finishing operations.
  • Reduces strike times in production.
  • Increases productivity.
  • Optimises mould usage.
  • Economical in use.

Application as an Accelerator:

Pre-mix Surespeed with gauging water; check amount of water to be used in the mix, sand grading and condition.

The details below gives indicative dosage rates relative to cement and water addition rates. Mixing proportion to cement used :

Concrete/Mortar: 5 Litre Surespeed per 100 Kg of cement

Mixing proportion to gauging water:

*Concrete: 5 litres Surespeed to 40 litres mixing water

Cement Mortar: 2.5 litres Surespeed to 35 litres water

Amount of SURESPEED per cubic metre of concrete/mortar:

Concrete: 11.25 litres

Cement Mortar: 10 litres

*Note: Based on commonly used mixes having a fairly high slump with approximately 100 litres of mixing water used per cubic metre of concrete (the 100 litres includes theadded Surespeed).

As a Floor Hardener:

Incorporate Surespeed with gauging water at a rate equivalent to 5 litres of Surespeed per 100 Kgs of cement used. The concrete should not be gauged weaker than 1:2:4. If granolithic topping should be appropriate then a specification of 2 parts 3-6 mm clean grano (no dust) to ½ part concreting sand to 1 part cement.

For selection of relevant mix designs and installation techniques refer to BS 8000 Part 9 and BS 8204 Part 2.

NB: Many of the benefits to be gained from the use of Surespeed as a hardener can be negated by bad practice and placement techniques. Refer to relevant BS document for guidance on placement, curing etc.

As a Super Rapid Hardener:

Surespeed may be mixed neat with fresh ordinary Portland Cement in small quantities for use immediately as a plugging compound.

As a Frostproofer in Mortar:

is introduced into the mix dat a rate of 2.5 litre - 5 litre per 50 kilo of cement pre-mixed with the gauging water . The examples given below are typical of the requirements and dosage rates applicable. All sands and aggregates to be used should comply with relevant national standards. Care should be taken to ensure that mixes are placed or laid as soon as possible after mixing at sub-zero temperatures. This time must not exceed 20 minutes. Ensure all aggregates are free from frost and cover work on completion to protect from freezing winds.

Suggested Mixes Designs

For protection of bricklaying and rendering mortars at temperatures down to -2°c a 1: 6 cement sand mix should be used, with Surespeed added at a rate of 1.25 litre per 25 kg of cement

For temperatures below -2°c a stronger mix should be used 1:4 cement sand being suggested and Surespeed added at a rate of 2.5 litres per 25 kgs of cement. In all cases maximum benefit of Surespeed is achieved when the water reducing properties of the product are utilised to the full. In mortar mixes where high levels of plasticity are required Surespeed can be complemented by PMP Powdered Mortar Plasticiser.

Watchpoints

The chloride ion content has been calculated as approximately 0.8% of weight of cement when Surespeed is used at 5 litres per 100 Kg of cement. Do not use with High Alumina cement. British Standards qualify the use of calcium chloride in mortars and concrete - always refer to the appropriate Standard before use of Surespeed.

Surespeed cannot be used in mortar for structural masonry complying with BS 5628. Consult the Engineer or the appropriate British Standard Code before using in strength mixes and/or reinforced concrete - for this type of application refer to Surespeed Plus or Surespeed CFL Product Data Sheets.

For further advice or before using with other admixtures, contact BCR Technical Services Department.
