Single Component High Modulus Silicone Rubber Sealant

Sureseal Silicone Sealant-HM is a single part silicone rubber which cures rapidly on exposure to air to form a resilient synthetic rubber. It may be applied over a wide temperature range and resistance to weathering is excellent. Contains a biocide which prevents "black spot" from forming on the surface.

Areas of Use

  • Sanitary fittings
  • Kitchen units
  • Tiling
  • Glazing
  • Sealing curtain wall construction

Advantages

  • Single component
  • Fungal resistant
  • Good movement accommodation
  • Good chemical resistance
  • Rapid skin formation
  • Easily tooled and profiled

The sealant has excellent adhesion properties but to achieve the desired results ensure that all surfaces are free from contaminants and that they are dry.

No primer is required on surfaces which are sound wood, aluminium, ceramics, glass, glazed tiles and polyester coatings.

If the depth of the joint to be filled is greater than that recommended then it should be partially filled with a closed cell foam backing strip.

Using a skeleton gun the sealant should be forced firmly into the joint and against the sides taking care to avoid entrapment of air. After application the sealant can be tooled to remove inadvertent air, and to ensure contact, by using a rounded tool moistened with a dilute detergent solution. A perfect concave profile can be achieved around sanitary units by carefully masking 6 - 8 mm either side of the joint, forming a bead between the masking, and finishing with the piece of timber or pipe moistened with a dilute detergent solution, remove the masking tape immediately after profiling.

Joint Design

Under good conditions the sealant can accommodate movement of up to +-7.5% of the joint width provided that the following recommendations are adhered to.

Minimum depth & width of sealant 3 mm. For width in excess of 6 mm The depth should be half that of the width.

Watchpoint

Sureseal Silicone Sealant-HM should not be used in contact with alkaline substrates such as concrete. For these areas Sureseal Silicone LM should be used.

Single Component Low Modulus Silicone Rubber Silicone Sealant

Sureseal Silicone LM is a neutral curing silicone sealant, highly elastomeric and low modulus. Perfect for joints subject to considerable degrees of cyclic movement.

  • For sealing joints in plastic or cementitious materials and joints subject to high levels, cyclic movement.
  • Sealing gaps between rigid UPVC window frames and brick or concrete.
  • Perimeter sealing of rigid UPVC or aluminium window frames.
  • UPVC or GRP cladding panels.
  • Joints in concrete and other porous cement based materials.
  • Joints in brickwork and masonry.
  • Applications requiring a high level of movement accommodation. E.g. Expansion and Architectural joints.

Advantages

  • Single component, gun application.
  • No mixing problems, sealant ready to use.
  • Cures to form modulus high elastic durable rubber seal.
  • Accommodates high levels of movement.
  • Bonds to a wide range of cementitious and plastic materials.
  • No primer required for most applications.
  • Low shrinkage.

Application

Preparation

Surfaces must be completely dry and free from all dirt, dust, cement laitance and any deleterious matter. This can be achieved by thorough wire brushing or grit blasting, followed by blowing clean with oil compressed air. Metallic surfaces must be free of rust, scale or coatings.

Priming

Priming is not required for most substrates, however, for some plastics, priming may be required.

Placement

Priming is not required for most substrates, however, for some plastics, priming may be required.
