Description

Cemcol is a powder colouring agent for use in sand : cement and concrete mixes to provide permanent colour.

By utilising the optimum levels of finest oxide pigments, Cemcol combines with the cement matrix of the mix to provide permanent pigmentation of the mix being UV stable unlike alternative earth or carbon pigments.

Areas of Use

  • Sand cement brick laying mortars.
  • Coloured Pavings.
  • Granolithic Pavings.
  • Sand cement renders
  • Pre-cast Concrete
  • Roughcast Renders
  • Brickwork Pointing.
  • Pointing ridge tiles etc.

Mixing:

Cemcol is readily dispersed throughout the mix when mixed in the normal manner. It is recommended that the Cemcol is pre-blended with to dry constituents of the mix prior to the addition of the mixing water. Care should be taken to ensure that excess mixing water is not introduced.

Typical Specifications for use:

Rendering

Apply the rendering on to a keyed surface at a total thickness of 18mm in two coats. The first coat to be applied at a thickness of 12mm and composed of 1 part of Portland Cement to 4 - 6 parts of clean, sharp, washed sand, plus the addition of 1 Sachet of PMP Mortar Plasticiser per 50kg of cement used. Scratch to form a key and, when set apply a 6mm thick coat composed of 1 part of white or Portland cement to 4 ½ - 6 parts of clean, sharp, washed sand, plus the addition of 1 kg of Cemcol Colour per 50 kg of cement used. Finish with a textured or wood floated surface.

Granolithic Paving

Lay paving at a minimum thickness of 18mm composed of 2 parts of ¼ “ – 1/8 “ granite chippings (no dust) to ½ part of clean, sharp, washed sand to 1 part of cement, plus the addition of 1 kg to 2 kg of Permatone per 50 kg of cement used.

Gauge paving materials as stiffly as possible and trowel to a finish on the day of laying.

When pavings are laid at a thickness of 36mm or more, the Cemcol can be incorporated through the top 12mm only, providing that both coats are laid to form a monolithic topping.

Sand and Cement Paving

Lay paving at a minimum thickness of 18mm composed of 2 ½ parts of concreting sand to 1 part of cement, plus the addition of 1 kg to 2 kg of Cemcol per 50 kg of cement used.

Roughcast

Apply scratch coat at a thickness of approximately 9mm composed of 1 part of Portland Cement : 4 parts of clean, sharp, washed sand plus 1 sachet of PMP Mortar Plasticiser per 50 kg of cement. When set, apply the coloured coat onto which the pebbles are dashed. This coloured coat should be applied at a thickness of approximately 6mm and composed of 1 part Portland or white cement to 4 ½ parts of clean, sharp, washed sand, plus the addition of 1 kg to 2 kg of Cemcol per 50 kg of cement used.

Structural and Precast Concrete

Compose concrete to mix specified (usually 1:2:4) and mix 1 kg to 2 kg of Cemcolper 50 kg of cement used.

When colouring roads and pathways, form two monolithic layers with the top 25mm. coloured only, Natural stone shades can be formed in pre -cast and reconstructed stone work, but owing to the strong staining power, only small quantities of Cemcol need to be added.

Brickwork

Permanent coloured joints in brickwork can be formed by incorporating Cemcol in the bedding mortar or by pointing after erection.

For bedding mortar, Cemcolcan be incorporated with 1:1:6 or 1:2:9 cement/lime/sand mortars, or in a mortar mix of 1:4 up to 1:6 cement and sand mortars at the rate of 1 kg to 2 kg of Cemcol per 50 kg of cement used.

In addition to colouring, Cemcol will also improve the plasticisity of the mortar and will increase strength and resistance to the passage of water. For pointing work, Cemcolcan be used at the rate of 1 kg to 2 kg per 50 kg of cement in either cement/ lime and, or cement and sand mortars.

In cases where Architects wish to form contrasting or matching colours to brickwork, free testing samples can be supplied for the erection of test panels on site, or alternatively, our laboratory will, on request suggest a suitable mixing specification. N.B. The introduction of Cemcol will in no way contribute to the formation of efflorescence salts, however, this natural phenomenon will be more noticeable when occuring on coloured mixes.

BCR do not produce a colour chart for Cemcol as final mix colours will not only depend upon dosage but also, mix design, aggregate colour and finish texture.

Where added plasticity is required Cemcol can be used in conjunction with PMP Mortar Plasticiser.

Dosage

A typical dosage for Cemcol would be 2 kgs per 50 kgs cement, however, the final colour can be adjusted by variation of the dosage.

Colours Available

Available in: Red, Black, Brown, Marigold, Yellow and Green

Health and Safety

As a general code of practice treat all chemical products with care and keep away from children and animals. Cemcol should be handled in such a way as to minimise excessive dusting.

Protect skin and eyes from direct contact.
