Box 25 x 380ml tubes

An elastomeric polysulphide sealant designed for sealing vertical construction joints, movement joints in curtain wall construction and cladding panels. Sureseal 1 Part Polysulphide is also a high performance frame perimeter sealant.

Areas of Use

For applications requiring a ready mixed sealant which will, when cured, accommodate movement resulting from wind velocity, vibration, stress etc. When cured, Sureseal 1 Part Polysulphide is capable of withstanding repeated cyclic movement. It is suitable for:

  • Sealing around windows and doors.
  • Sealing joints in cladding panels.
  • Bead and groove glazing.
  • Pointing of Lead Flashing

Advantages

  • Single component, gun application.
  • Ready to use, direct from cartridge.
  • Cures to tough, flexible rubber which will accommodate movement.
  • Minimal shrinkage.
  • Available in a range of colours.
  • Good durability.
  • Excellent adhesion to most building materials.

Application

Preparation

Surfaces must be completely dry and free from all dirt, dust, cement laitance and any deleterious matter. This can be achieved by thorough wire brushing or grit blasting, followed by blowing clean with oil-free compressed air. Metallic surfaces must be free of rust, scale or protective lacquers.

Priming

Priming is not normally required however on extremely loose or dusty surfaces the use of BCR primer P is recommended.

Placement

Sureseal 1 Part Polysulphide is supplied ready to use.

Cut off the tip of the plastic cartridge, screw on the separate nozzle provided and trim at an angle to size of joint.

Load the cartridge into the Gun and extrude the sealant directly into the joint. After application, the sealant should be smoothed with a pallet knife or similar tool to aid adhesion to the joint faces and to provide a smooth surface.

For neat finishes, cover the face edge of the joint with masking tape and remove immediately after sealing work has been completed.

Joint Design

Sureseal 1 Part Polysulphide should not be applied to joints below 6mm width or above 25mm width.

The minimum depth should be 6mm and maximum depth is 25mm. Width to depth ratio ideally should be 2 : 1.

A closed cell Backer Rod can be used to allow the correct joint dimensions to be achieved; the circular cross-section provides the ideal section for the seal.

Coverage

A 400 ml Cartridge will will fill a joint approximately 12mm x 6mm in section.
